Review
For my campaign I wanted new and old ways of advertising to mix into one so I would have the most success possible. Dated methods such as magazine articles or newer methods such as QR codes were all mixed together so I could get the most engagement possible for my film. For my first weeks of the campaign It was quite dry in all sectors such as followers, likes and views. Because of this I decided to try out my own hashtag and also tagging and interacting with all accounts similar to mine. It definitely helped slightly in terms of views and likes. I was gaining many followers but people from all over Instagram were interacting with my posts.
After having success with my own created hashtag I decided to use a website that featured the most trending and most used hashtags on Instagram. The aim of this was to use hashtags that weren’t even relevant to my film such as Technology, Trading and even animals. Using these would bring nearly every different person searching through these hashtags to my post. Using this way did give me even more success than before, but did bring down my comments due to them not being too interested in what was being shown. I continued with this method throughout the majority of weeks until I stopped seeing an increase.
As well as hashtags I also decided to experiment with a QR code. From my secondary research it had told me that 90% of 18-25 year olds were most likely to interact and scan a QR code they see. I decided to use this and integrate it within a magazine article I was going to write in the way of a film review. I made sure my QR code came straight to the website of where I had written it. My article was only a short taster of what they could expect from the film and from the characters. I introduced them very vaguely and gave away a few hints here and there to keep the viewers interested. Unfortunately, I had the least success with this one as my page didn’t get nearly as much traffic as before. This showed me that not many people were to interested in scanning the QR code.
As a whole, I don’t believe my campaign was successful. I didn’t get many people following my account or even engaging at the end of the weeks due to a few reasons. What could have been done better was things such as interacting with even more similar accounts and even promoting myself in Instagram comment sections of very big accounts. I feel I could have generated more excitement and buzz for my film if I used even more modern ways. My article as a whole di
dn’t do as well as I hoped. Maybe if I had posted the article onto my page and story people would be able to read a short snippet and if they liked it they could either click on a link instead of a QR code, or even used both. The last week of the campaign, I felt my account basically died with new users. For my existing followers they continued to like and view what I put out but I feel it was too late to save my engagement. I also did post my review quite late into the week and right before my film was about to preview and drop so maybe if I had done it earlier I would have seen more success than I actually did.
Overall, the best way I found to create engagement was through hashtags. They worked amazing for me and made me create lots more engagement than others ways. Using my own personalized hashtag as well meant that all my posts I made would fall under that tag when you searched into that specific section. So they were all together and not all over the place. If even one persons searched the tag up they find all my posts about the film, even if they didn’t mean to search it they can still view them, which still creates impressions for me. As well as this, I felt if I kept up on using hashtags on every single post, always using the trending hashtags as well, then I would have created more than I have. In the future, If I was to market another film I would instead of sticking to Instagram posts, change it up with adding Reels/Story posts as well. With more research into it and the ways it worked I feel even more people from all over the place would be able to view a story and only need to click it and view to engage with it. Apart from that, the only other thing I would do differently would be to not write an article piece but create a teaser trailer instead. If people I had something to watch that gives them even more information and even a feel for what the movie will be like then I would have had more success. Some people want to watch and gather their own thoughts and feelings instead of having to read and having to picture it all in their head.
